Halloween

This year, Izzy decided that she wanted to be Rapunzel.  I was able to find the perfect dress, and hair...luckily she was okay wearing the wig as she'd worn one last year for her Merida costume.  Maybe someday we'll venture beyond the princess realm, but it doesn't look like that will happen any time soon ;)

Izzy's REALLY big into making funny faces right now, as demonstrated below.  I took this photo at her the Halloween party at her school...silly girl!

I would really, really love for the 3 of us to dress up together with a theme someday, but we were both scrambling again this year.  Glad I had this dress from my witch costume last year, as it worked pretty well with the sugar skull face that I painted on.  Joacim was the grim reaper...I think he really loves to pick scary costumes....he wants to be known as the scary house (and I think it's working, based on some of the kids that he scared in the neighborhood!)

He even got a fog machine....

Did you see Joacim in the corner?  Yeah, a lot of other kids didn't either.  He'd hide in the corner, and scare them when they'd walk up.  Izzy liked to scare the kids too!  There was one group who we saw coming up to the house, so Izzy and I headed inside and Joacim stood in his spot.  The kids knocked on the door and Izzy and I answered.  We started to give them all candy, and one of them looked at Joacim and said, "THAT'S scary", and then he started poking him a little...he clearly had no idea that Joacim was real, and right when he started poking him, Joacim whispered "Boo".  Holy hell...I thought that kid was going to jump out of his costume!  Sooooo funny!  I wonder what "scary" things he'll come up with next year.....

Grown-up Halloween Party

Seriously....it's December and I'm posting about a Halloween party..... .....I'll never catch up :)  This Halloween party was TECHNICALLY in November, so I'm not as far behind as it sounds, but still far enough behind to be embarrassed.

Our friends, Cory and Laura, hosted a grown-up Halloween party at their house the first weekend of November, and it was a blast.  I decided to go as a go-go dancer, as opposed to the Wicked Witch of the East costume I sported for trick or treating.  Not bad, I'd say....

While Joacim went as...well...I'm not quite sure exactly how you'd describe his costume :)

Yes, that is a mustache on the side of Daniel's face....it had many different locations as the evening progressed :)

This is Waldo (I mean Katie) and I

I had bought a 5-pack of mustache's for Joacim to pick from.  He brought all of them and kept updating his outfit....

Pippi and Kate Middleton

and BEER PONG!!!

After beer pong was exhausted, it was on to "tippy cup"....totally felt like I was back in college, only sober this time :)

Note that Danie's mustache has become a unibrow....

And the ladies WIN!!!

At some point I got a hold of Waldo's glasses and morphed into Velma from Scooby Doo.

Batman's sidekick was having a good time...nice photobomb by Pippi :)

And here's a picture of my closest friends....it turned out great...from l-r:  Laura, Caroline, Katie, Lyndsay, Kristin and me :)  Thanks for a great time all!!

Halloween!!!

I wish this post would be the one that got me caught up...sadly that's not the case (but at least I got in the Halloween post before Thanksgiving!!)

We were "Booed".  Don't know what it means to be "Booed"???  Well...lemme tell ya'.  So you create these little bag/basket of goodies, with the little instructions in it, and leave it on the doorstop of one of your neighbors.  And once you receive a "boo", you do the same thing to 2 of your neighbors.  I had heard about this before, but never lived anywhere that people actually did it (guessing, in hindsight, I could've tried to start it :).  But this year, in this great new neighborhood, they all participated.  So much so that we were "Booed" a total of 3 times!!

So, since we had been booed twice, I wanted to create 4 baskets of goodies, and here they are.

Joacim scoped out the neighborhood when he walked the dogs, and found that everyone in our little area had already been booed, so we went to the other neighborhood next to ours and started it.  I was trying to be so stealthy....sneaking around and putting the baskets on the doorsteps.  I was so scared that someone was going to open their front door as I was putting the basket down, or that their dog would bark, or that they would see me through their windows and freak out thinking I was a robber :)  Luckily, I was sneaky enough and got them all out without getting caught.  Whew!

We also weren't sure how Halloween would be, but considering how many kids there are in this neighborhood, I shouldn't have worried.  There were TONS of kids out, and it was great getting to see them all dressed up!

Here's the Trunk family's annual Halloween photo :)

And our friends, Daniel and Caroline, came over to trick-or-treat with Izzy.  This was also Caroline and mine's one-year anniversary of meeting each other ;)

She became a pro in no-time ;)

We all went out together at first, but then realized that we'd miss half of the kids, so Joacim and Daniel went back to the house to man the candy, and Caroline and I escorted "Merida" around the neighborhood.

That head of hair was the hardest thing to keep on, but she did it!  She wouldn't put it on at all before Halloween...no amount of trickery could get that thing on her head, but she wore it like it was her own :) We didn't even make it to half of the houses in the neighborhood before it started getting a bit too cool.  Next year (hoping the weather is as good) we'll start early, and bring along some liquor :)

Halloween 2010

Izzy's first Halloween experience of this season was at her daycare.  They had a carnival, where each room had a theme revolving around kids books.  Here we are getting dressed for the occasion.
You might recognize the "butterfly princess" outfit.  I decided it was much easier to put this one on her for this event.  We were one of the first families there (miracle of all miracles :) so Izzy had a chance to see all of the costumes.  She seemed a little confused about all of the kids, but she was completely freaked out about her teachers.  She didn't recognize any of them with their costumes on!  I felt so bad for her :)  And I think she thought that we were gong to leave her there, so she didn't want to get down or participate in ANYTHING.  Maybe next year, right?
The first stop was actually Izzy's room, and their theme was Dr. Seuss.  Here's Miss Rowena (dressed up as Thing 1).  Rowena is the "Weena" in "Tina Weena and she's GREAT!
And here's Lindsey dressed up as Thing 2.  Izzy just stared at them both skeptically.
And here's Miss Christina (or Tina from Tina Weena)
Butterfly wings upside-down, but they stayed on a lot better this way (and her pony-tails didn't get stuck in them :)
Like I said....no participation....
I wish I would've taken more pictures of the rooms because the staff did an AMAZING job of decorating them!  I have no idea where they found the time to do all of it, but it was incredible and truly appreciated.  Thank you!!!

I had gotten Izzy a pumpkin about a week before Halloween, but couldn't find the time after work to decorate it, so we ended up doing it ON the afternoon of Halloween.  Hey, better late than never, right?

That first dip in the pumpkin is always a little disturbing, as clearly indicated by the ridiculous face that I'm making.
Izzy wouldn't dare stick her hand in there.
I had used a template for the design this time, and gotten some little tools, so carving was MUCH more fun this time
And later in the evening, it was off for some trick-or-treating.  We went as a biker family (at least that's what I was originally going for), but Izzy found this headband that I had gotten her (and completely forgotten about) but I think it added a nice touch, don't you?
Joacim had gone out the previous night with some friends and donned this wig and a crazy satin shirt as his outfit, so he wore the same wig, and I think it went quite nicely.
Here's our neighbor, Amy, who Izzy's seen a bunch of times.  Do you see how she's curling into Joacim?  Like she'd jump into his skin if she could???
She had a bit of a meltdown at some point because I wouldn't (or couldn't any longer) carry her, even though we were nearly standing in our own driveway.
And since Izzy had her little witch hat on and Joacim had his wig on, I decided that I needed to pull out this wig from a Halloween costume from long ago.
I think we look absolutely ridiculous smashing!

I think this is one of my favorite photos now
After hanging out in front of the house and seeing all of the other kids get candy, Izzy decided she wanted to go out again.
And here's our pumpkin all lit up

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween!
