Recipe of the Day : Kabuto "fake"

This isn't so much a "recipe" per say, but rather a meal idea. One of my favorite places to eat is a local Japanese steakhouse called Kabuto. Sometimes I'm CRAVING it, but Izzy gets a bit freaked out there (lots of fire :) so we don't go very often. This is my complete knock-off of my favorite meal (minus the salad and miso soup).

I take steak tips that I got from Fresh Market (excellent, btw) and cook them in a little olive oil and butter in an iron skillet.  I think the iron skillet is KEY here, as it allows the meat to brown nicely. I finish the tips off with a bit of Worcestershire and soy sauce.

This is exactly what it looks like, sauteed veggies.  I saute some onions, broccoli, zucchini, yellow squash and mushrooms in a heck of a lot of little butter.

And this is my fried rice. I used Jasmine rice that was freshly made, but I'm thinking that day-old rice might be better.  Anyway, I take some butter and fry an egg in it, making sure to chop up the egg in to teeny tiny pieces.  Once the egg is cooked, I add the rice and some cooked corn.  Toss well and add soy sauce to flavor.
And that's it.  Nothing tricky, nothing fancy, but hella yummy!

That looks completely awesome!

We use day (or couple-of-days) old white rice for fried rice all the time. We toss in whatever leftover veggies and or meat from meals during the week and do Fried Rice for Saturday lunch or dinner. :)
