We decided to head out to the zoo on Saturday. They were having a power recycling day where you could drop off old electronic equipment like computers and phones, etc. for recycling. We had some stuff around that desperately needed a new home, so it was a good excuse.
We were originally scheduled to do Izzy's 1-year photos on Saturday evening, but when I picked her up from daycare on Thursday, I saw the beginnings of a stye in her left eye. It was mild in comparison to some, but by Friday night it was pinkish and her under eye area looked purple. These things do not make for good photos, no matter what editing software you have, so we decided to reschedule. Thank goodness we did that too, because her eye wasn't much better on Saturday and the weather was CHILLY.
First stop was the White River Gardens. They have a butterfly exhibit there now, and it was fun to watch her try to follow the butterflies.
At this point, I think she's just confused, so we figure we'll move on to bigger animals that don't move as fast.
On our way out of the gardens, there was this row of hedges, and this crazy bird walking on top of them. He was kind enough to stop for a quick shot:
Here's a ring-tailed lemur...cutie..
Here are some baby goats. They had such a funny way about them...hopping around like they had ants in their pants..too cute!
The nice thing about visiting the zoo on a cool day is that the animals are usually active, and Saturday was no exception. We stopped by the baboons, but that typically turns into something akin to at least an R rating, and this day was no different. I won't even describe what those crazy critters were doing, as this blog aims to be kiddie friendly :) Just kiddin...for those of you that have ever seen baboons, you know what I mean!
So then we moved on to the lions. The lions are NEVER this close to the viewing area, but it was great to see them so close. I will admit that, even with the bars between us, I was a bit nervous when this beauty eyed Izzy as if she'd make a nice snack:
Joacim must've heard me complaining that I'm never in any of the shots, because he took the camera from me half-way through so I could have a few photos of me and the Boo...here are the results...
This one is my favorite...thanks Joacim!!!!
Last photo, I promise....very proud, sleeping seal..
